I’ve seen a lot in my 43 years. The daughter of a self starter, my childhood was punctuated with the feast or famine moments so typical of the self employed. A glutton for punishment I then married a serial entrepreneur and we have had to

work at being both business partners and husband and wife. More recently, I have fought my own battles in trying to balance the commitments of a demanding job

and the needs of my 2 daughters. There have been times when I have lost that

battle and it impacted on both my physical and mental health but what I learnt

at my lowest points has made me stronger today.

In 2006 I qualified as a chartered accountant, I think subconsciously so I could help people like my father who always seemed to be dealing with one challenge or another whilst simply trying to do the best for his family. My career to date has given me a vast range of experiences – I’ve counted bricks and I’ve presented to the board. I’ve worked in manufacturing, hospitality and insolvency. I’ve learnt a lot.

Most recently I’ve learnt that everything I know as an accountant is only half the story. Companies are run by people, not profits, yet my contribution focused solely on the bottom line and ignored the reality around me. It ignored the people, and as one of those people, I felt the impact of that profoundly.

I’ve never been one to do half a job, so I chose to set up Nurture as a way for me to continue doing the work I love, properly, in a way that has a positive impact on peoples lives, not just on their pockets.
